US Secretary of Commerce calls Ellicott® dredges "the best in
the world" during factory visit to promote US exports
US Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke visited the headquarters and Baltimore factory of
Ellicott® Dredges last week to promote the US Government's new National Export Initiative, which
has the goal of doubling US exports in the next five years. US Congressman John P. Sarbanes
(MD-3) accompanied the Secretary, along with Suresh Kumar, the new Assistant Commerce
Secretary and Director General of the US Foreign Commercial Service.

During the visit Locke met with Ellicott®'s workers and vendors and toured dredging equipment
under construction for export. He labeled Ellicott® an "iconic" American exporter which had
"survived and even thrived despite an unbelievably difficult environment" because it had "the
market covered" in "making the best dredges in the world."

Secretary Locke cited Ellicott® as an excellent example of how US exports create well paying
jobs.
"Ellicott® Dredges is a testament that...American companies make goods and services that are
desired all over the world" said Secretary Locke.

Ellicott® and Other US Exporters
Secretary Locke also described how Ellicott® has been successful offering financing for its foreign
clients from the US Eximbank. He said other American manufacturers should follow Ellicott®'s
lead in offering Eximbank financing to their foreign buyers. The Secretary pointed out that
increased export financing is one of the major focus points of the National Export Initiative.
