Ellicott® announces the New and Innovative SANDMINER™ Aggregate Production Dredge

The new and innovative SANDMINER® aggregate production dredge, is a new concept in improving the productivity of sand and gravel producers. This new design, utilizing a tri-tubular truss ladder concept, along with advanced instrumentation capabilities, dramatically reduces cost per ton figures and still is built to Ellicott®'s legendary standards for ruggedness and durability.

LADDER MOUNTED SUBMERGED DREDGE PUMP:
- Thomas - underwater pump 12" x 14".
- 13" [330 mm] suction.
- 12" [305 mm] discharge.
- 36" [914 mm] diameter high efficiency impeller.
- Alloy cast iron [Ni-Hard 4] wearing parts - pump case, impeller and head liners - 500 BHN minimum.
- Heavy duty alloy steel pump shaft with high capacity anti-friction spherical roller radial and thrust bearings.
- Hollow line shaft driven with intermediate bearing and flex plate couplings.
- Head tank for pump bearing housing positive internal oil pressure to insure bearing lube oil protection and keep water out.
DIESEL ENGINES FOR SUBMERGED DREDGE PUMP AND AUXILIARY CIRCUITS:
- Dredge Pump Caterpillar Model 3412 DITA keel cooled with residential muffler. Rated 715 bhp [533 bkw] continuous at 1800 RPM (rating at flywheel). Flywheel mounted marine transmission, 2.76:1 ratio with C.C.W. rotation output shaft (as viewing engine flywheel).
- Hydraulic Pump: Caterpillar Model 3406C DITA keel cooled with residential muffler. Rated 449 SHP [335 kw] intermittent at 1800 RPM (rating at flywheel).
- 24 volt D.C. electric starting with 100 amp alternator and 220 amp-hour batteries with plastic battery box and cables included.
- Throttle control operable from operations room on pump engine only.
- Remote oil pressure and jacket water temperature gauges and tachometer in lever room.
SWING WINCHES:
- Two [2] reversible independent hydraulically driven swing winches – 15,400 pounds line pull @ 120 feet per minute.
- 5/8" [16 mm] diameter rope.
- Totally enclosed planetary gearing with anti-friction bearings.
- Gear type hydraulic motor.
- Dynamic hydraulic braking for normal swinging for reduced maintenance.
- Totally enclosed automatic mooring brake - friction type.
- Controls for each winch in lever room.
LADDER HOIST:
- One reversible independent hydraulically driven ladder hoist winch - 24,500 pounds line pull @ 115 feet per minute (both directions).
- 3/4 inch (19 mm) diameter rope.
- Dynamic hydraulic braking @ three times rated drum torque.
- Totally enclosed automatic mooring brake - friction type.
- Totally enclosed planetary gearing with anti-friction bearings.
- Gear type hydraulic motor.
- Ladder hoist winch with forward bow gantry. Hydraulic motor.
- Reinforced truss member for winch support.
- Single control from operations room with raise, lower and neutral positions.
STERN WINCH:
- One reversible independent hydraulically driven stern winch – 15,400 pounds ((6985 kg) line pull @ 120 feet per minute.
- 5/8" [16 mm] diameter rope
- Totally enclosed planetary gearing with anti-friction bearings.
- Gear type hydraulic motor.
- Dynamic hydraulic braking for normal swinging for reduced maintenance.
- Totally enclosed automatic mooring brake - friction type.
- Single lever control in operations room.
OPTIONAL FIVE WIRE SYSTEM
- Two additional interdependent hydraulically driven winches - same as stern winch with a three (3) sheave stern swivel assembly.
HYDRAULIC SYSTEM:
- Multiple hydraulic gear pumps coupled to diesel engine.
- 175 gallon [662 liter] reservoir with level gauges, temperature gauges and hydraulic oil.
- Individual circuits for cutter, swing winches, stern winch and ladder hoist. Single lever control for each function in lever room.
- Pumps protected with suction strainer [75 mesh, with magnets] and return line filter [7 micron] with pressure filter in charge pump circuit.
- All circuits protected against over pressure.
- Forward, neutral and reverse available for all functions. Speed control provided for swing winches and cutter.
- Mobile EAL Envirosyn (or equivalent) biodegradable environmental hydraulic oil optional
DREDGE PIPING:
- 13" I.D. X 1/2" wall [330 mm I.D. X 12.7 mm] mild steel suction pipe bolted on ladder.
- Flanged suction cleanout trap with gasketed cover provided on ladder pump. [Stone box]
- 12" I.D. X 3/8" wall [305 mm I.D. X 9.5 mm] mild steel discharge pipe on ladder and hull with standard connector flange at stern.
- 12" I.D. discharge hose at trunnion end of ladder for connection to hull mounted discharge pipe.
SERVICE WATER SYSTEM (FOR DREDGE PUMP GLAND FLUSHING):
- Centrifugal service water pump - anti-friction bearings - cast iron construction - provides 60 GPM [227 l.p.m.] and minimum of 10 psi [0.7 kg\cm2] over dredge pump discharge pressure.
- Cleanable strainer and shut-off valve.
- Deck wash valve [hose bib] included.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:
- 24 volt D.C. circuit powered from diesel engine starting batteries.
- 12 volt control room outlet for radio
LIGHTING SYSTEM:
- 24 volt D.C. lighting system.
- Two [2] floodlights for aft end, two [2] floodlights for forward end - 24 volt
- One [1] dome light in lever room - 24 volt
LEVER ROOM AND CONTROL PANEL:
- Large removable welded steel lever room with tinted Plexiglas windows all around (except for center window) and lockable door.
- 360 degree rotating operators chair with adjustable position.
- Desk type control panel with fingertip switches and knobs for all dredging functions and illuminated dials for night operation.

- Heavy duty tri-tubular dredging ladder fabricated from structural steel with suction pipe mounted externally to eliminate dragging at shallow digging depths.
- Approximately 89 feet [27.1 m] long from centerline of trunnion pin to end of cutter.
- 60'-0" [18.29 m] dredging depth @ 45 degree inclination.
- Heavy duty hardened trunnions with removable grease lubricated pins mounted aft.
- Steel safety links for securing ladder for towing and maintenance.
- Submerged piston type direct connected hydraulic cutter motor drive.
- 155 H.P. [116 Kw] cutter motor with 29-48 R.P.M. cutter speed.
- 41.5 inch [1054 mm] diameter - 6 blade cutter - cast steel plain edge blades with keyed and tapered shaft connection. Approximately 8,940 pounds [4,055 kg] of cutting force.
- Alloy steel cutter shaft with anti-friction bearings and watertight seal - spline connected to motor. Oil filled housing with positive internal pressure.
- Grease lubricated swing sheave blocks for 5/8 inch [16 mm] diameter rope.

- PAINTING:
The dredge shall be painted according to Ellicott®'s standard schedule. The hull shall be sandblasted before painting internally and externally to a commercial grade (SSPC-SP-6). All other steel work shall be wire brushed and thoroughly cleaned of loose mill scale, rust, oil, or other foreign matter before painting.
- All other surfaces shall receive a primer coat of five (5) mils thickness of Carbomastic 15 or equal, and a finish coat of five (5) mils thickness of Carboline D890 or equal.
- The primer coat will be allowed to dry thoroughly and harden before application of the finish coat. Carbomastic 15 is a high solids aluminum epoxy mastic. Carboline D890 is a high solids epoxy polyamide.

SHOP AND FIELD TESTING:
- The dredge shall be assembled and tested as far as practical under no load or simulated load conditions to insure proper operation.
- Upon launching and final assembly, the dredge shall be fully tested by Ellicott® to insure that all equipment is operating properly.
INSTRUCTION MANUALS AND DOCUMENTS:
Two sets of manuals shall be provided. Each set shall include the following:
- Instructions for the maintenance of the dredge
- Repair parts information for equipment manufactured by Ellicott®
- Operating instructions and parts information for equipment supplied
- Field assembly and launching recommendations
