Selecting the Right Dredge for Your Application

Mining, Sand and Gravel Dredging

Using dredges is an efficient way to obtain sand, gravel, and in some cases precious minerals. Smaller dredges are often employed to manage the level of fines and tailings that accumulate in settling ponds.

Ellicott dredges are known for their heavy duty, rugged performance in the toughest mining operations around the world.
Typical Applications:
- Sand & gravel mining
- Mining for Ti0, tin, phosphate ore, potash, trona
- Tailings and slimes pond management
- Coal fines recovery

Port, River and Coastal Dredging

Whether working in a small marina or world class port, dredges are indispensable tools for creating and maintaining navigatable waterways. In addition, they are essential to land reclamation projects, and developing infrastructure in coastal areas.

Ellicott’s standard product line is extensive enough to assure that the right size dredge is available for your project, no matter how large or small.

Typical Applications:
- Port and harbor dredging
- River and canal dredging
- Marina and inlet maintenance
- Land reclamation
- Island development
- Beach nourishment
- Coastal protection projects

Environmental and Specialized Dredging

Some dredging projects require precise removal of material, often at inland sites. Dredges are regularly used to remove accumulated silt from lakes and ponds. Another common use is to remove contaminated sediments and sludges from waterways and industrial ponds.

All Ellicott dredges can run on biodegradable hydraulic fluids and bio diesel fuels. When dredging in an environmentally sensitive area consider an environmentally friendly designed low turbidity or electric dredge.

Typical Applications:
- Restoring depth in lakes and reservoirs
- Industrial waste ponds
- Fly ash ponds
- Removing contaminated materials from river and pond bottoms (PCBs)
