Our Commitment to the Environment
At Ellicott Dredges, we believe that responsible manufacturing and environmental stewardship are inseparable. For over a century, our equipment has been the tool of choice for restoring wetlands, cleaning contaminated waterways, and protecting coastal infrastructure.
We are committed to minimizing our ecological footprint through three core pillars: Sustainable Engineering, Environmental Restoration, and Corporate Responsibility.
Sustainable Engineering & Technology
We design our dredges to meet the strictest environmental standards in the world, ensuring that our equipment protects the ecosystems it operates within.
- Tier 4 Final & Stage V Compliance: We offer advanced engine packages that meet and exceed U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V emission standards. These systems significantly reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM), ensuring cleaner air quality during operation.
- Zero-Emission Electric Dredges: For sensitive environments and long-term stationary projects, we offer fully electric dredge models (such as the Series 370, 670, and 1270 electric options). These units eliminate exhaust emissions entirely and drastically reduce noise pollution, making them ideal for urban zones and protected habitats.
- Biodegradable Hydraulic Fluids: To protect water quality, we offer the option to equip any dredge with biodegradable hydraulic fluids. This vegetable-based alternative breaks down naturally in the event of a spill, preventing long-term damage to aquatic life.
- Precision Dredging: Our Swinging Dragon® series (Models 360SL and 460SL) features a unique design that allows the dredge to operate without cables or anchors. This minimizes bottom disturbance and protects sensitive seagrass beds and marine habitats from unnecessary damage.
Empowering Environmental Restoration
Our equipment is actively deployed in some of the most critical environmental remediation projects globally. We don’t just talk about conservation; we build the tools that make it possible.
- Wetland & Marsh Creation: Ellicott® dredges are frequently used to pump sediment into eroding marshlands, rebuilding vital habitats for migratory birds and aquatic species. Ellicott dredges were instrumental in the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge restoration project in Delaware, one of the largest marsh restoration efforts in the eastern United States.
- Lake & Inland Waterway Restoration: We partner with government agencies to remove sediment and invasive vegetation that choke freshwater ecosystems. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) utilizes a fleet of custom Ellicott 460SL dredges to restore water quality and navigability in state park lakes, featuring custom "green" modifications like biodegradable fluids.
- Clean Water Initiatives: In developing nations, our dredges are essential for deepening reservoirs and river systems to ensure reliable access to clean water and prevent flooding. In Bangladesh, Ellicott has delivered dozens of dredges to the Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) to maintain over 2,300 km of waterways, ensuring flood control and sustainable transport routes.
Corporate Responsibility & Compliance
Our internal operations are guided by rigorous standards to ensure we practice what we preach.
- ISO-Aligned Management Systems: Our manufacturing and operational processes are managed through a Quality and Environmental Management System (QMS/EMS) designed to align with ISO 9001 standards. This framework ensures continuous improvement in reducing waste and energy consumption at our facilities.
- Industry Leadership: We are active members of the Western Dredging Association (WEDA), participating in industry dialogues to advance sustainable dredging practices and safety standards.
