Quality Manager

We are currently seeking a Quality Manager, who will lead all activities involving quality assurance including environmental and safety compliance. This individual is responsible for the design and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that quality, safety and environmental standards are met and maintained. The Quality Manager will interface with engineering, production planning, safety/quality assurance, and manufacturing regarding all technical aspects of the manufacturing processes utilized in the organization. This individual will review processes including the disciplines of fabrication, heavy equipment assembly, hydraulic & water piping, and wiring

Essential Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain testing and sign off procedures for all products.
  • Audit, review, analyze and inspect both manufactured and purchased components, data and documentation to ensure compliance to pertinent drawings, standards and specifications.
  • Determine critical points of inspection on vendor manufactured components and document necessary inspections.
  • Ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and documented to prevent recurrence. Communicate all necessary corrective actions to vendors/production.
  • Conduct and supervise all testing and quality checks of finished equipment.
  • Working knowledge of all precision measuring and inspection equipment, including operation, maintenance and calibration and maintain all necessary certifications.
  • Control and properly document non-conforming product.
  • Oversee the development, implementation and improvement of Ellicott’s Quality Management System and maintain compliance to ISO 9001.
  • Assess quality and safety performance and develop key performance indicators and reports to drive continuous improvement efforts. Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving activities as required.
  • Ensures that the company is in compliance with all federal, state and local OSHA and environmental regulations in partnership with our safety partner, OECS. Complete and submit reports as required.
  • Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices and ensures that employees follow them to prevent injuries or damage; assists with scheduling safety meetings with our safety partner, OECS, and implements recommended changes.
  • Leads the implementation of a strong safety culture to identify and eliminate hazards and incidents.
  • Conducts job safety audits and inspections to identify hazards. Evaluate hazards and determine potential risk and loss that can occur.
  • Works with Human Resources if incidents occur to properly complete first report of injury, incident investigation and root cause analysis and work comp follow up if required.
  • Provide leadership in and interaction with customers in order to ensure that customer communication expectations are continually met or exceeded.
  • Perform duties consistent with established safety and ISO quality procedures, rules, and standards.
  • Experience with various quality, continuous improvement and root cause analysis techniques such as TQM, 5-Why, 8D and DMAIC techniques.
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail and project management skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises quality inspectors in the Quality Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; minimum of five years of experience in quality assurance in a quality function and a working knowledge and safety compliance, preferably in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and manufacturing software system.
